Urban Planning
RePlot
Interactive tool that identifies underutilized urban land for infill development, scoring parcels on a 100-point algorithm across ROI, regulation, and environmental impact.

01 — Problem
Urban sprawl destroys forests and wetlands while cities have abandoned parking lots and single-story concrete strips trapping heat and increasing flood risk. No tool existed to help planners identify which parcels are best suited for infill development based on financial, regulatory, and environmental criteria.
02 — Approach
- 01
Google Gemini analyzes parcels on four weighted factors: ROI (cost of land, development value), Physical Traits (size, shape, infrastructure risk), Regulations (zoning laws, special development plans), and Impact (housing units, local shortage, cultural heritage).
- 02
Custom scoring algorithm sums all factors to 100, ranking parcels by environmental ROI, feasibility, and socio-economic impact.
- 03
Sustainability metrics drawn from IPCC Carbon Accounting Standards, Stanford InVEST Cooling Index, UK Biodiversity Metric, and ERA Stormwater Management formulas.
- 04
React frontend with an interactive map; Python/FastAPI backend handles Gemini queries and parcel analysis.
